Brennaman’s interview came days after Kelley’s former classmates described him as “creepy, insane and weird”. “He put it to my temple and he told me, ‘Do you want to die?”
The first wife of the Texas church shooter described him as a menacing and abusive man who constantly threatened her and her family with death. Speaking to Daily Mail, a former classmate, who asked to remain anonymous, said: “I grew up going to school with him”.
Tessa Brennaman, 25, was married to Devin Kelley for 18 months, filing for divorce in October 2012.
Kelley had been banned from buying or owning a gun after his domestic violence conviction but his conviction “was not entered into the National Criminal Information Center database”, the Air Force revealed in the wake of the shooting.
Military prosecutors dropped the firearms charges before trial in an agreement in which Kelley pleaded guilty to aggravated assault against the child and assault against his wife.
The Air Force did not provide a date of the discharge, but his military record indicates he left the service in May 2014.
After Kelley shot parishioners at the First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs, he fled the scene in his truck while being chased by two good Samaritans. They said all three were purchased by Kelley. The New York Times reports Brennaman was 19-year-old Tessa Loge when she married Kelley in 2011.
An ex-wife of Devin Kelley, who authorities have identified as the gunman responsible for the mass shooting at a church in Sutherland Springs, Texas, earlier this month, described his alleged abuse in a television interview.
At least 26 people were killed in the Texas church massacre.
In the wake of the tragic shooting, parishioners of the church have made a decision to demolish the structure.
