A 20-year-old Las Cruces man was arrested after police say he held his teenage girlfriend against her will and pointed a shotgun at her friend.
When she woke up around 10 a.m., she wanted to leave and sent a text to her 16-year-old friend asking for a ride.
When the friend arrived at Rendon’s home, she told investigators he was mad at his girlfriend and didn’t want her to leave.
That’s when Rendon allegedly grabbed a shotgun, loaded it and pointed it at the 16-year-old friend, investigators said.
Rendon’s girlfriend told investigators she had been physically assaulted and restrained during the incident. The teen appeared to have bruises on her left thigh that indicated she had been battered, according to investigators.
The two teens were able to run to a neighbor’s house, where they called police.
Rendon later told investigators he owned two BB guns but denied that he had a shotgun in his home. He gave investigators permission to search his home, where they found a black shotgun inside a bedroom closet.
Rendon was arrested and charged with one count of child abuse, one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and one count of false imprisonment and a misdemeanor count of battery against a household member.
He was booked into the Dona Ana County Detention Center, where he is being held without bond.
