Masked robbers fatally shot a man while holding his girlfriend at gunpoint during a home invasion in Mount Houston on Thursday.
The robbers forced their way into the home in the 11000 block of United Street around 11:30 p.m.
The girlfriend, who was sleeping when the masked men broke in, was held at gunpoint. They fired several rounds, striking and killing the homeowner, said Sgt. Pinkins of the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.
“I don’t think he had an opportunity to defend himself,” Pinkins said. “I think
that they forced their way in and gunfire began shortly thereafter.”
The robbers also ransacked the whole house, although it’s unclear what was taken, Pinkins said. At this time, it appears the burglary was targeted, he said.
The unidentified homeowner, 25, died, and his girlfriend was taken to the hospital to be treated for stress.
There were at least three robbers, Pinkins said. They fled in an unknown vehicle.
Several family members lived in the other residences on the property, although most of them were out of town at the time of the shooting, Pinkins said.
It appears there is some video footage from the incident, the sergeant said.
“That is very bold, and the fact that they were masked, they probably felt that their identity, the footage wouldn’t be any good,” Pinks said.
