Christmas is about people coming together to celebrate, and some Kiwi families can’t help but involve their pets in the festivities.
Here’s a snapshot of the furry friends we were sent to celebrate the season.
All tinselled up
This is my Kenzie, she loves getting all tinselled up!

Big dog in red
This is our boy Benny.
Benny is 10 months old and will be celebrating his first Christmas this year.
When Benny saw the bright red colours of his Christmas suit, he was intrigued. He was so enthusiastic about wanting to know what this red garment was he sniffed it all over.
Once he put it on, he walked around the house and after a while we tried to get him to take it off, but he didn’t want to. He will be giving out the gifts for the family this year.

Spreading Xmas cheer
For many people who have lost loved ones, Christmas can be a hard time of year.
So I like to make people smile with the help of my amazing animals.
This is Spruce, my white galloway cross calf. Merry Christmas everyone!

Kevin (dressed as the elf) and Jack (dressed as the gingerbread dog) enjoy the Petone Christmas Parade in their snazzy outfits.
Tris also went to the parade dressed as a fairy.

Not a happy chappy
Here’s a photo of my cat Sushi who isn’t showing much Christmas joy! Sushi is 7 years old and has a demanding personality, but we love her to bits.

Just horsing around
The chestnut horse is my 15-year-old quarter horse cross gelding called Kahu.
I got him about 5 months ago after he had been neglected. He was very scared and insecure when he first came to me, but now he’s just a huge softie who loves cuddles, food, and attention.

Maddy ‘loves’ Christmas
Maddy is a 2-and-a-half-year-old shar pei.
She loves barking at the neighbours, sleeping in the sun, finding the muddiest puddle to roll in and begging for food.
She brightens her owners’ day by waking them up at 6am to give them big slobbery kisses before going back to sleep for a few hours. She also makes a lot of “art” on the walls by shaking off her drool after having a drink.
Maddy gets so excited to see her owners after work that she wees herself.
She also loves dressing up for Christmas, as you can see by the look on her face!

Hoppin’ around the Xmas tree
Everest is a flemish giant who will be turning two this Christmas Eve.
Everest is more like a dog than a rabbit, and he adores playing with our seven children.
– Lisa Murray
Polly has personality
My wee girl Polly is a 6-year-old black and white cat, who we adopted from the SPCA. She has such a sweet personality.
She loves playing ‘fetch’ in the backyard and doesn’t mind being dressed up for Christmas as you can see.
She also loves watching the David Attenborough documentaries on wildlife and birds. Merry Christmas!

Louie the angel pug
Louie has just turned 10. He has a degenerative spinal issue which impedes his walking, but his spirit is amazing and he doesn’t ever let it stop him… especially eating.
– Karie-Ann Kennington
Oscar the naughty cat
Christmas is exhausting for everyone…even cats. I found Oscar taking a little catnap inside my Christmas wreath. He’s an 8-year-old burman and is a loving, but very mischievous and nosy cat.
He’s a fantastic companion to have. At Christmas time we get a lot of visitors who make a fuss over Oscar and he laps up the attention.
