ASSATEAGUE, Md.- The Maryland Natural Resources Police say one man is dead and a teenager was hospitalized after swimming off the coast of Assateague State Park.
According to NRP, the 57-year-old man from Chantilly was swimming around noon when for reasons unknown at this time he began to struggle. A 17-year-old from South Ridge was also struggling to swim. NRP says a surfer attempted to save the two.
Both the man and the teenager were transported to Atlantic General Hospital, but the man succumbed to his injuries. The teenager was treated and released on Sunday.
The man’s identity has not been released at this time.
